Microsoft Project Server 2010
Manage Full Projects on the Web
Microsoft® Project Server 2010 is a robust project management system with the right blend of usability, power, and flexibility. Project Server keeps you informed and in control of all project work, schedules, and finances. Project Server offers enterprise extensibility through SharePoint Server integration as well as powerful reporting, portfolio governance and planning, and a multitude of other standard tools.
For example, Project Server offers a rich set of new Portfolio Strategy features are now available in the core Project Server product serving to more closely unify project and portfolio management.
Key Features of Project Server
Demand Management is about capturing all work proposals in one place, taking those proposals through a multi-stage governance process, making decisions on which proposals to approve, and tracking progress on their execution until the work is completed. A key component within Demand Management is the Workflow governance model implemented with Project Server.
Delegation is, simply put, the ability to temporarily and virtually become another user. In Microsoft Office® Project Server 2007, the timesheet surrogate feature exists to allow one timesheet user to give the management of their timesheet to another user — send updates and so forth. This is great for timesheets, but there are many other parts of the Project Web application where you may want to delegate your duties to another user or users, but you can’t because a delegation feature does not exist. Based on this need, the Delegation feature was added to Project Server. This feature allows one user to act as another user, no matter the permission level difference of the one user compared to the other.
In austere times, as well as in times of rapid growth, companies need to know what work is being done and how each project aligns with broader business priorities and objectives. Project Server delivers this in an easy to use Web application called Project Server 2010. Even with this new addition, Project Server remains an easy-to-use, Web-based system for time tracking and resource management, and now has the added power of Project Server 2010 release demand management and full project schedule management.
